Italian Police Arrest Top Mafia Fugitive

Italian police have arrested the head of a powerful Calabrian mafia clan who was listed among the country's 30 most dangerous fugitives.

Giovanni Tegano, on the run since 1993 and believed to be a high-profile member of the feared 'Ndrangheta crime syndicate, was arrested near the southern city of Reggio Calabria late on Monday.

"His capture is the hardest blow that we could inflict today to the 'Ndrangheta as he was the number one Calabrian fugitive," Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said.

Highlighting the hurdles authorities face in their fight against the mafia, more than 100 of Tegano's supporters blocked a street outside a police station in Reggio Calabria on Tuesday to cheer the 70-year old as he was escorted by police officers into a waiting car to be driven to prison.

Mailbox-Bomb Suspect Arrested in Texas

People in East Texas are breathing a bit easier today after authorities announced the arrest of a suspect accused of possession of a pipe bomb.

Federal authorities will detail their case against Larry Gene North of Henderson today, the Associated Press reports.

An indictment filed in federal court mentions only one case of possessing a bomb March 23 -- the same day an apparent pipe bomb was found in a mailbox in a small town near Tyler.

At least 16 explosive devices or lookalikes have turned up in East Texas mailboxes. None has blown up and no one has been injured, the AP says.

Ga. Man Who Posted 'Elton John Must Die' Arrested

A Georgia man who posted a video of himself on the Internet holding a sign that said "Elton John must die" has been arrested for making terroristic threats.

Neal Horsley, 65, was arrested early Wednesday in Carrollton, about 50 miles west of Atlanta, said Atlanta Police Sgt. Curtis Davenport. He would not say who Horsley is accused of threatening, but Horsley's son, Nathan, said he thought the arrest was connected to the video about the musician.

In the video posted Feb. 28 on YouTube, Horsley held the sign in front of a building where he said John has a condo. John's publicist, Fran Curtis, confirmed that John has an Atlanta apartment but declined further comment.

Horsley was upset that John, who is gay, told Parade magazine in an interview last month that he thought Jesus was a "compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems."

"What Elton John has done is desecrated the image of the Lord Jesus Christ, blasphemed the Lord Jesus Christ," Horsley said in the video.

Twitter Joke Prompts U.K. Terror Arrest Amid Tight Airport Security

A British man was arrested on suspected terror charges after airing his frustration at air travel delays on social networking site Twitter, it emerged Monday.

Airport security around the globe has been heightened since the failed Christmas Day bombing aboard a Detroit-bound jet, with fears of further terrorist attacks making security and police forces jumpy.

When Robin Hood Airport near Sheffield, northern England was closed Jan. 6 due to terrible weather conditions Paul Chambers joked on his Twitter page, "Robin Hood airport is closed. You've got a week and a bit to get your shit together, otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!!" The Independent newspaper reported Monday.

However South Yorkshire police force took Chambers’ joke to be a threat, and arrested him a week later on suspicion of communicating a bomb hoax under the U.K.’s Criminal Law Act 1977.
